Project applicants plan EU fund investments in over 200 family doctor offices

The announced European Union (EU) funding program for improvement of family doctor offices experienced very high participant activity – 140 project applications were submitted for evaluation to the Central Finance and Contracting Agency applying for investments in over 200 doctor offices all around Latvia.

117 project applications for the EU funds were submitted by medical institutions and 23 project applications by municipalities and municipal institutions. The highest project applicant activity in regions was in Kurzeme (with 26 projects), the lowest – in Vidzeme (15 projects); however, the most applications were received in Riga (34 projects) and the surrounding area (Pierīga) (30 projects). In Zemgale we received 18 project applications, but in Latgale – 17 project applications.

The planned EU funding and the state budget support for the received project applications totals to around EUR 1.5 million and foresees investments in over 200 family doctor offices in Latvia.

The selected projects and amount of the granted support will be determined after evaluation of all project applications. CFCA has already begun project assessment and plans to complete the evaluation within three months.

The CFCA project selection  for medical institutions and municipalities was open from 25 February to 24 April, and the program plans to grant EUR 3.5 million from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and the state budget for improvement of family doctor offices.

After evaluation of all project applications received in this round, the remaining amount of funding will be specified in order to announce the next selection within this EU fund program for improvement of family doctor office infrastructure.

The ERDF support for family doctor office infrastructure is granted within framework of the fourth project selection round of the specific support objective 9.3.2 “To improve access to quality health care, especially to population subject to the social and territorial exclusion and poverty risk, developing the health care infrastructure” of the program “Growth and Employment
